Innovation Multi-Disciplinary Team Meeting (IMDT) reintroduced by Innovation Team
Prior to COVID-19, a multi-disciplinary team was established by Cardiff and Vale University Health Board and Cardiff University to strengthen the commitment to improve clinical health delivery for our population and boost the economy in Wales.
During COVID-19 the meeting became more challenging to arrange, personnel moved and subsequently there was a period of inactivity for the group. However, recently our innovation team has re-instated this meeting to catalyse innovation within our Health Board.
The aims of the iMDT are:
to provide advice and signposting to maximise potential of an idea or concept
to enhance contacts and collaboration within the UHB and Cardiff University
to inform about IP and copyright
to inform on the Medical Devices Directive and CE certification
to signpost potential funding sources or advice
Anyone with a passion for clinical innovation that will support the health of our population is encouraged to deliver a short presentation to the IMDT board of experts. In response they will receive tailored support and advice with an aim to accelerate the transition of clinical innovation into implemented solutions.
Mark Briggs, Assistant Director of Innovation at Cardiff and Value UHB said;
βThe iMDT has been a really successful approach whereby a team with a broad, but deep, breadth of experience have helped guide colleagues, entrepreneurs and companies advance and develop their ideas. Having had to resort to virtual meetings in recent years, I am really excited about the opportunity to return to in person events again as we look to relaunch and reinvigorate the iMDT.β
These meetings are usually in-person and are targeted at specific audiences and often involve those with a range of clinical, industry, entrepreneurial and academic expertise. The emphasis of the meetings is on advice and guidance, these meetings are not a place for sales pitches.
